WaterLife Field Projects

"...actions are superior to the power of words..." Demosthenes

Bapa, Cameroon is a typical WaterLife field project that includes a rehabilitated well, pump and drinking water reservoir for a village health center, in this case serving 3,500 people.

The success of the Bapa project is due to several key factors: supportive village leadership, a village water committee, and a village sanitation/hygiene committee; decision making - including selection of the site and local technician - by the village water committee; contribution of sweat equity and financial commitment of close to 20% of the project cost by community members; women in leadership roles; protection of the water site; education and training in safe water, hygiene and sanitation; a fund collection system to ensure current and future upkeep/upgrade of the well and pump and 100% community ownership.
